A MAN and a woman were arrested and two officers were taken to hospital after police cars were allegedly rammed at Smithfield on Friday night.
Just before 9pm, Northern District police patrols were called to Moulds Crescent following reports of a suspicious black Statesman driving in the street with no number plates on the vehicle.
A patrol spotted the suspect car, which on seeing the police vehicle attempted to execute a three-point turn.
The patrol vehicle activated it’s emergency lights and attempted to stop the black Statesman but the driver allegedly rammed the front passenger’s side of the police car.
Another police patrol arrived at the same time and also tried to stop the black Statesman, but it was rammed on the driver’s side of the vehicle.
The male driver of the Statesman attempted to run from the patrols, but he was quickly restrained and arrested.
A 44-year-old man from Blakeview and a passenger in the Statesman, a 25-year-old woman from Hillcrest, have both been arrested.
They were interviewed over the incident with several charges expected.
Two police officers from the second patrol car that was rammed, were taken to the Wakefield Hospital with minor injuries.
